How to Stop Your AI Bot from Seeing Your Cloud Files

Futuristic humanoid AI figure with glowing circuit patterns across its face and body, surrounded by floating digital interface icons representing files, data, and user profiles.

You might think, “I like using you, AI bot, but I don’t want you or ClaudeBot inside my personal folders.” That feeling is normal. Your photos, money info, and private notes should feel safe.

The good news is this: AI bots cannot walk around in your Google Drive or iCloud by themselves. They only see files when you turn something on and say yes. Still, it’s smart to check your settings so your private folders stay private.

How Your AI Bot Reaches Your Files (And How to Block It)

An AI bot can only reach your cloud files through an app or connector that you approve. Here’s what usually happens:

  • You install an app, plugin, or service.
  • It asks for Google Drive or iCloud access.
  • You click Allow and maybe pick which files to share.

If you never give that permission, your AI bot has zero access to your cloud. It cannot see your folder list or what is inside your files.

So, to stop your AI bot from seeing more than you want, the key move is simple: remove or block any app you don’t fully trust.

How to Protect Your Google Drive From AI Bots

You can make Google Drive much safer in a few quick steps:

Create a private folder just for you

    1. Go to drive.google.com
    1. Right-click → New folder and name it something like Private – Do Not Share
    1. Right-click the folder → Share
    1. At the bottom, set General access to Restricted
    1. Remove every person except you.

This blocks apps, automations, and AI tools from seeing what’s inside.

Remove apps that can share your Drive with bots

      1. Go to your Google Account permissions page (under Third-party apps with account access).
      1. Look for any app that has Google Drive access
      1. If you don’t want that app touching your Drive → click Remove access

Use safer sharing when you must share

      1. If you share a folder with a person or an AI service, use View only or Comment only
      1. Avoid Editor unless you truly need it.

These steps keep your Drive safer so your AI bot only sees files you choose on purpose. You can see and remove apps that have access to your Google Account on Google’s “third-party connections” page: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/13533235.)

How to Protect Your iCloud From AI Bots

iCloud is more locked down by default, but it’s still wise to check which apps can use it. AI bots like ClaudeBot or any other tools cannot reach your iCloud Drive unless an app on your device has permission.

      On iPhone or iPad

      1. Open Settings
      1. Tap your name at the top.
      1. Tap iCloud
      1. Tap Apps using iCloud
      1. Turn off any app you don’t trust or don’t use.

      On Mac

      1. Open System Settings
      1. Click Apple ID
      1. Click iCloud
      1. Look under Apps Using iCloud
      1. Turn off access for apps you don’t trust.

Once an app is turned off, it cannot read, save, or sync files in iCloud for any AI bot. (Apple explains how to choose which apps use iCloud in their help guide: https://support.apple.com/en-us/118225.)

You Are the Boss of Your Cloud

Here’s the simple truth: your AI bot—whether it’s ChatGPT, ClaudeBot, or any other—does not get into your Google Drive or iCloud by magic. It only sees what you share through apps and permissions you approve.

By making at least one private folder, removing apps you don’t trust, and checking which apps use iCloud, you stay in charge. Your AI bot can still help you with ideas, writing, and
